Could Uber Be Successful at Package Delivery?

Could Uber apply the crowd sourcing model that they have successfully applied to the people taxiing business and be as successful in the field of package delivery? While they continue to move forward with the plans, there are significant barriers to overcome according to those in the package delivery business.

Operating a large, efficient and reliable package delivery model requires huge scale with large overhead. Optimizing logistics required to do this well are much different than the more random nature of the taxi business.

So for now, FedEx and UPS do not appear to be very concerned about Uber.

In his former role as an intern with the Information Technology Services (ITS) department at the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) in University Park, Alexander (Alex) Green drew upon an in-depth knowledge of information security and risk. He did this while pursuing his bachelor of science in security and risk analysis with a minor in information sciences and technology, which he successfully completed. He graduated in the spring of 2015. While working toward his degree, Alex Green completed such courses as cyber forensics, information security management, and network security.

Beginning in the summer of 2013, Alexander Green helped the Pennsylvania school analyze the security vulnerability of the ITS website and related applications. He independently created the work plan that drove the progress of the project, and also personally analyzed security risks and determined appropriate interventions. He balanced these responsibilities with service as a computer lab consultant, in which role he assisted both students and staff in use of school’s computers.

Active on campus in his free time, as a student and intern, Alex assumed a leadership role in the administration of the university's annual dance marathon to benefit pediatric cancer research and care. Specifically, he served on committees and groups that worked to organize and raise funds for the Penn State event.
